3. Summer Intern Interview
Process DescriptionPhone interview was easy. Walking through the resume, favorite activities on campus, and the usual. They flew me out for an the in-person group interview. About 10 people were there for the day, including 3 local students. 2 1-hour long behavior interviews to start off the day. The interviews were entirely behavioral, very repetitive, and not a pleasant experience. There's only so many times you can talk about your success within groups before it starts to get old. After that, we got long on the firm and sat around and talked. They pitched the firm for a while and really tried to play up the "team" atmosphere. This firm is a very laid-back, "un-Wall Street" type firm and they pride themselves on that. The fit was not there, and I ultimately did not receive an offer,
The Vanguard Group Interviews:
When was a time where you had to change a project or assignment at the last minute? How did you respond?
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Vanguard (Malvern, PA) in February 2018.
Applied online and received an email to schedule a phone screening within 2 weeks. Phone screening was very general questions about my background, and the HR associate was very nice and willing to answer all questions.
Then we schedule an onsite interview for the next week. The Interview Visit Day consisted of presentations about Vanguard, group activities, a case review, lunch, a tour, and two 1 hour interviews. It was a technical interview and a behavioral interview.
Vanguard arranged the transportation to the interview and a hotel for the night before.
The technical interview was a few quick questions about programming concepts (JAVA focused) and a written a problem they handed beforehand. The interviewer was very interested in my experiences and my approach to solving problems. I had a great experience.
The behavioral interview was a few STAR questions about leadership . Likewise, the interviewer was very interested in my experiences and shared a lot about his time at Vanguard. I had a great experience.
